Last night, Jupiter Ascending featured on my Smart TVโs movie playlist. Both for personal entertainment and research for my upcoming blog post and science fiction book.
After two hours of special effects wrapped in a story with more twists than Chubby Checker, I realized most of my drafts suffer from a similar syndrome Iโve dubbed Jupiter Ascenderitis.
The Jupiter Ascenderitis Syndrome is obviously no official illness, but more like a curse. The Curse of Knowledge. The filmmaker duo now known as The Wachowskis (of The Matrix fame) crammed too much information into one single publication. Pity, because the underlying intelligence โ whether true or false โ enclosed fascinating theories about the ancient history of mankind and the most important secret which is โฆ
Oh shoot, my background alarm bell just went off. Thirty minutes have passed since I started writing this experimental post. Youโre reading it in real-time. I gave myself exactly one hour to write and hit publish, no matter what.
Why? Because thatโs the only way Iโll actually publish anything again.
I promised myself to publish a new article every last Sunday of the month. I already missed February and March, which sucks. In ten minutes, a more intrusive sound will indicate the final quarter. At five minutes, the nuclear alarm goes off. When the digital timer hits zero, itโll clap. Thatโs my cue to slam the Publish button.
So, hereโs the main point(s):
๐ถ Stick to one and only one central topic โ donโt overload the reader with too many twists and turns
๐ถ Scribble away โ just write and donโt enable your internal editor
๐ถ Stop aiming for perfection โ let it go when good is good enough
Good chance Iโll edit this post a dozen times later, but for now, this version will have to do.
Also remind me to finish my current drafts before I start editing this one. There are some really interesting articles coming up. And thatโs exactly my Curse of Knowledge: so many ideas, so many drafts โ but I need to learn to separate them.
One post at a time.
Five minutes left: just enough time to add a link and maybe one graphic.
Damn it, ticking clocks and deadlines really suck.
Guess that pretty much sums up the moral of the story in Jupiter Ascending, too.
What's on your mind?
