in ✍️ Writing, ❇️ SPARK, ✨ AI, 📚 Publishing

SPARK is published. Self-Publish with AI, Reason & KDP is now available as an ebook and a paperback, and I’m very happy to finally be able to write that sentence.

No preview, no promise that the final part will follow. A finished book, out in the world, ready to meet readers.

Shortly after release, I saw SPARK at #3 on Amazon’s Best Sellers list in Generative AI, alongside Ethan Mollick’s Co-Existence. That made me proud. Rankings move, of course, but seeing my book there was a lovely surprise. For a project that spent rather longer on the runway than planned, it was quite a take-off.

A book about finishing, nearly two years late

The original preorder was at the end of November 2024. The finished book arrived in October 2026. Almost two years late is not the obvious marketing angle for a book about getting your own book published, but it is an honest one. Apparently, knowing the route and actually walking it are still two different activities.

In January, I shared a preview of Parts I and II. Part III was where the book began to study itself. An AI-written draft existed, but it did not sound enough like me, and it lacked the lived experience I wanted that part to carry. Producing more fluent words would not solve either problem. I had to ask what I actually wanted to say.

That question brought me back to typing my own feedback, working with Copilot Cowork and reclaiming the voice of the book. AI drafted substantial content; I made the decisions about what belonged, what needed changing and what I was willing to put my name to. That distinction is central to SPARK. AI can help you write. It cannot take responsibility for your meaning.

From an idea to something you can share

SPARK is for people who have something to say but have not yet turned it into a book. You might be new to self-publishing, or perfectly comfortable with technology and still have an unfinished manuscript somewhere. Expertise does not automatically make you a finisher. Sometimes it just gives you more sophisticated reasons to postpone.

The three parts connect thinking, doing and learning. Part I brings together personal frameworks, including SHAVED and the Minto Pyramid, with AI as a thinking and writing partner. It is about finding structure without losing the person behind the words. Part II makes the KDP journey practical, with gamified missions that turn an intimidating publishing process into work you can actually tackle.

Part III looks beyond publication: feedback, metrics, AI and the continuity of an idea once it leaves your desk. What do you learn from putting something into the world? What deserves another iteration? The book is not a promise that pressing a button will produce your voice, your readers or your success. It is an invitation to use the tools deliberately and keep your judgement switched on.

Publication is a connection, not a full stop

I increasingly see a book as a node: a place where ideas become tangible enough for other people to respond to them. A sale matters, but it is not the only useful outcome. A book can start a conversation, become an essay, prompt a workshop or help someone recognise that their own experience is worth sharing.

That is what I hope SPARK will do. I do not need every reader to follow my route. I would love readers to find their own, using what helps and questioning what does not. If this book helps you take an idea you have been carrying around and turn it into something another person can read, then it has done more than fill a space on a bookshelf.

A few practical answers

Is there a European/Dutch Amazon link?

Yes. Use the European/Dutch Amazon link below. I’ve also included the US paperback and Kindle links, so you can choose the edition that suits you.

European/Dutch Amazon: https://amzn.eu/d/04XGVA8x

US paperback: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HMNVR3SC

US Kindle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HMLLC1BL

Will there be signed copies?

Yes, signed copies are coming; I’ll share the practical details later this week. If you’re interested, send me a note. For now, I’m enjoying the fact that there is finally a published book to sign.

What would I most like you to do with SPARK?

Read it, certainly. But more than that, think about the idea that keeps returning to you. The story, experience or insight you wish someone had written down. Could that become your book? I would love SPARK to help you move from “one day” towards something finished, in your own voice.

I’m proud of this first SPARK book, and happy it is now out there. Thank you for being part of the conversation.

May this book be the spark.
The next words are yours.
